Acupuncture

Traditional acupuncture is a comprehensive system of medicine based on natural laws; developed and refined with a continuous clinical history of over 3000 years. It is a highly effective method treating functional and chronic disorders, preventing illness, reducing stress, and helping us achieve and maintain optimum health.

Acupuncture can help with many issues, and, relieve a wide variety of complaints such as:

  • pain (joint and back pain from accidents, sports, over use, surgery)
  • arthritis
  • asthma
  • addictions
  • menstrual and fertility problems
  • pregnancy health
  • labor induction
  • insomnia/sleep issues
  • chronic fatigue
  • fibromyalgia
  • stress management
  • In the behavioral and emotional realms acupuncture can help with labels such as ADD, ADHD, anxiety, and depression.

Acupuncture helps us become attuned to what we innately know — that we are interconnected — mind/body/spirit. The classical Chinese translations speak to the health of the physical, emotional, and mental body. They refer to them as one and they do not separate them. Acupuncture can awaken our awareness of how we nurture and tend ourselves in our working and playing worlds: food choices, sleep habits, exercise, social and creative outlets, etc.  “Acupuncture keeps the rice pot bubbling!”

Massage

At Healing Arts we offer a variety of modalities and techniques, including Swedish massage, deep tissue, myofascial release/connective tissue massage, Esalen massage, and Reiki. Massage sessions are created using a blend of these techniques with the intention of best meeting the needs of each client.

Therapeutic massage relieves muscle stiffness, increases circulation, moves lymph, and can be helpful for any stress-induced chronic health problems such as headache, insomnia, ADD among many others. Our massage therapists use a variety of techniques to shape each session individually, to best address the situation of each client.

In recent years, therapeutic massage has become widely recognized by the western medical establishment as beneficial, rather than as an indulgence or way of self-pampering. We’re happy to be able to provide this gentle healing modality on Capitol Hill.

Therapeutic massage is available by appointment.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy, often referred to as talk therapy, is a process in which a clinical therapist and an individual enter into a collaborative relationship for the purpose of assisting the individual:

  • develop insight and gain increased understanding of a specific problem, situation or relationship
  • achieve personal growth
  • make meaningful behavior or lifestyle changes
  • reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, or diagnosed mental illness<
  • maximize enjoyment of life

There are many approaches to psychotherapy including: cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, psychodynamic or eclectic. The benefits of psychotherapy can be life changing. At Healing Arts we take an interactive supportive approach to psychotherapy targeting the method to the unique needs and interests of each client. Our Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers are available to offer these services to individuals, families, couples and/or children.

Mediation

Mediation exists in many fashions, and depending on the Mediator the focus can vary. Josh Greene, LICSW is a trained and practiced Divorce Mediator who chooses to assist couples who have decided to separate or divorce. Divorce has many implications, and navigating them alone is often challenging. People choosing Mediation are often interested in avoiding litigating their issues in Court, and look to engage with a third party as an alternative form of dispute resolution. Mediation is voluntary, fair, informal, and future-oriented, with a focus on the emotional, legal, economic, co-parental, community, and spiritual implications. Formal Parenting Plans will be developed as part of the Mediation process, if requested.

Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a method that works to change (movement) habits in our everyday activities. It is a simple and practical method – combining awareness and body mechanics – for improving ease and freedom of movement, balance, support and coordination. The technique teaches the use of the appropriate amount of effort for a particular activity, giving you more energy for all your activities. It is not a series of treatments or exercises, but rather a reeducation of the mind and body. The Alexander Technique is a method which helps a person discover a new balance in the body by releasing unnecessary tension. It can be applied to sitting, lying down, standing, walking, lifting, and other daily activities.
